Results of all standard samples have been shown. The deviations obtained are in the acceptable range. Repeatability of the duplicate pellets have also been compared with autoanalyser results.
Powder pellet method and fusion method of sample preparation have been compared.
Acceptable results can be obtained with finely ground compressed materials provided experimentally predetermined specific conditions are closely adhered to.
This paper emphasizes on the method of sample preparation and analysis of experimental conditions. However a detailed study of the matrix effects when samples are collected from different geological deposits is yet to be done.
This method can be used in mine planning and quality control in alumina plants where a large number of samples are to be analysed in a limited time.
