ABSTRACT In this paper, a new double crystal focusing shear wave angle probe has been developed. Two crystal of the problem are all curved surface, so that transmitting and receiving are all focussed beam. Its design, structures, and performance parameters are described. Its application in automatic testing for spin welding of thin wall small diameter tubes is also described. Its sensitivity, longitudinal resolution, transverse resolution, and signal-to-noise ratio are much better than that of conventional focusing probe. The experimental results and practice show that this probe can solve the problems of misjudgement and fail of detecting welds of thin wall tubes.
