LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) is now regarded as the newest development of ultrasonic testing instrument because of its tiny volume, low power consumption and free information output. The system uses MCS-8098 micro-processor of the INTEL Co. and TOSHIBA's DMF5001N large scale dot matrix LCD. The interface circuit is designed and tested. In this project, block method is used in designation for LCD- single chip microprocessor software system, several functional blocks have been developed, include:
- Dynamic graphic display. Regarding to the speed limit of the LCD itself, the following techniques have been applied to improve its processing speed: setting up "active page" and "inactive page", this makes the operation of the writing on the display unsighted; setting up "display page" which helps to switch between different graphic frames and make a smooth and continues dynamic graphic display; setting up of display window to avoid abundant operation to improve the dynamic graphic display; speed; the ultrasonic echo- wave conducting technique with rapid calculation. Finally some tests of dynamic graphic display are given.
- Display of special characters. Specific program and character display library are designed for external characters, especially for Chinese. This helps to give some necessary information and make a colorful display. Several important work have been done as follows: analyzing of the pattern of characters. Although the LCD system has a built in 8 x 8 dot ASCII character pattern, but it is very difficult to achieve the display of Chinese and other special characters, so special programs are designed to transfer Chinese BG standard library's 16 x 16 dot pattern into LCD specialized external character library; an efficiency block of write Chinese on LCD is given.
- CO-display of graphic and character, e. g. display the changing parameters and echo-wave of ultrasonic testing simultaneously.
