In the present contribution we apply the LISA method to simulate the propagation of surface acoustic waves (SAW), with partial conversion into bulk acoustic waves (BAW), in specimens consisting of fused quartz and single crystals (e. g. of Y, X- SiO2). The results are compared with images of the acoustic fields, as detected by a scanning laser acoustic microscope (SLAM system 2140, made by Sonoscan - Chicago). The comparison allows us to test the accuracy of our simulation technique and to refine it, if necessary. Conversely, once the reliability of the simulation approach is established, the method can be advantageously substituted to actual measurements, at least in a preliminary phase of exploration, and used to search for novel applications of the experimental technique in the field of material characterization.
