This paper describes applications of NDT in petroleum industry such as ultrasonic detection of petroleum drill assembly, eddy- current nondestructive testing of cracks on the surface of sucker rods, on-line monitoring of catalytic device by infrared imaging. Special attention is paid to applications of NDT in fault diagnosis and state monitoring for petroleum equipments such as ultrasonic on-line measurement of valve lift of mud pump, a novel technique of laser microprobe mass spectrographic analysis, state monitoring of rotational speed on air compressor using laser and a novel technique of laser measurement for the surface roughness. The general situation of NDT presently is herein briefly related in petroleum higher education in China.
