This paper brings out the extensive studies carried out using different types of radiopaque fillers, in various quantities and particle sizes. A suitable filler material is finally selected which gives very promising results. Defects such as delaminations, debonds, exposed gaps etc. in the composite nozzle liners are filled with this radiopaque adhesive. Radiographs taken on these products clearly indicate the presence of adhesives due to very good contrast and enhancement of images. Adequacy of the repair carried out on the product can thus be confirmed. If used at the time of initial bonding itself, the integrity of the interface of the product can be confirmed from these radiographs. As a part of this work, a number of nozzle linear specimens are subjected to lap-shear tests to ensure that the filler in the adhesive system does not degrade the bond quality. This technique is planned to be used in the production of various adhesively bonded composite structures for satellites and rockets.
