Performance of penetrant products for Liquid Penetrant Testing depends on various physical properties viz. Surface Tension, Viscosity, etc. There is a belief that lower the surface tension, penetrant power on sensitivity characteristic will increase. This paper describes a test conducted to identify various surface tension value against sensitivity performance characteristic. It has been observed that surface tension may be a very important parameter for a good penetrant characteristic. But it does not follow that lower the surface tension of penetrant value, it makes a better penetrant product from sensitivity angle. The other properties are also of importance to ensure a better penetrant of higher sensitivity. A complex mathematical model consisting of all Parameters may be applicable and needs to be investigated.
