line intensity of molybdenum present in SS - 316 on passing through the overlying coated layer is computed as a function of its plating thickness. The molybdenum Kß line intensity has been used as an internal ratio to take care of any variation in matrix composition and also surface defects it present. The linearity of intensity attenuation vs thickness was established with the help of chrome plated coupons of varying thickness. The method is absolute and does not require any certified standards and can be employed for routine quality control. The results obtained for the plating thickness measurement are in good agreement with those obtained by conventional metallurgical microscopic technique. The RSD of the proposed method is <2%. ![]() | NDE in Nuclear Industry | ![]() |
