The integrated systems for nondestructive testing of multilayer welded structures include radiation, ultrasonic, magnetic methods, means for acoustic emission inspection, tightness check. Technology and equipment for nondestructive testing (NDT) are determined by the specific features of a welded structure. The recent development of structures and members formed of the multilayer type welded joints has required the more sophisticated and specialized test procedures. The NDT methods developed due to the characteristics of this type welded joints allow to determine penetration width and depth, flowing of metal into gaps, to measure them. At present, various-purpose vessels heavy duty porous frames, main pipelines are made multilayer. The peculiar feature of the technology of multilayer welded structure fabrication is the great amount of various nondestructive tests. Thus, if to compare fabrication of monolithic and multilayer vessels of similar application, then in the first case the integrated system for nondestructive testing (ISNDT) comprises only double automated ultrasonic testing (AUST) and selective x-ray TV testing (XTVT) by the results of which the repair is performed, the repeated AUST and XTVT being carried out after hydraulic tests which have revealed the new defects. The ISNDT of multilayer vessels contains many additional operations. These are UST of a sheet, shell tightness test, UST of external and internal lap welds, the entire `tightness control, XTUT of circumferential welds, test of the monolithic edges, layer-by-layer check of penetration depth, etc.
