This application of Ultrasonic NDE is fairly recent. A database for the various test signatures corresponding to different configurations is required before a feedback control system can be implemented. So far, the actual group velocity values and the amplitudes of the signals received are key features in the detection of flaws. A relationship between the various molding parameters and the identifiable parameters of the signal received must also be established. Results are reported on the development of some necessary tools for the implementation of a control scheme based on ultrasonic sensor data. Data acquisition tools, data analysis tools, and sensor parameters, along with their relation to process parameters, are considered on a square test part. Sample results are also presented.
