The main objective of the presented study is to assess the viability of quantitative evaluations of the residual impact resistance of pure polymers and polymer-matrix composites by means of Falling-Weight Impact Testing using Acousto-Ultrasonics (AU) in conjunction with Pattern Recognition. To this purpose, analysis of Acousto-Ultrasonics signals are carried out by correlating the so-called "AU parameter" with the Falling Weight Impact Test results, in conjunction with Pattern Recognition and Classification Techniques. Further, the feasibility is studied of utilizing the above-said characterizations for the assessment of low-energy repeated impact damage in polymer-matrix composites.
