ABSTRACT
One of the most important applications of eddy current testing is in-service inspection of heat exchanger tubes. After heat exchanger has been put in to service, they are checked periodically during shut down period for finding out deterioration in the tubes due to pitting, due to corrosion and for crack detection. After this inspection the damaged tubes can be replaced or plugged/blanked so as to avoid costly up-planned shut-down of plants due to failure of tube while in service.
The paper describes:
The type of coil and instrument used for the inspection.
The reference calibration standard as per ASME.
Calibration and test procedure.
Evaluation of flaws under support plates in heat exchanger tubes. * Use of multi frequency eddy current testing equipments.
Advantages of multi frequency systems.
