Non-destructive testing (NDT) is widely applied in many applications due to the fact that it will not impair the future usefulness of the test object. One of the objectives of NDT is to ensure the product reliability. In machining, the product reliability is mainly affected by the status of the cutting wedge especially of tool flank (which influences the dimensional tolerances of the workpiece most) and chip morphology. Till date, the tool performance was maintained by the well-versed operators by their ability to sense, distinguish the events and control the machining processes.
