The bulkhead bolt of aircraft is a critical part withstanding high tensile stresses during flight. Understanding features of its fatigue crack initiation and growth is of great significance in fatigue test. Authors of present paper have employed acoustic emission (AE) to monitor fatigue cracks of the bolt during full-size fatigue test of an aircraft. By using multi-parameter recognition and correlation analysis, the authors have successfully identified crack growth-related AE signals. A combination of AE technique and fractography has produced a curve showing the relationship between AE parameters and crack length of the bolt.
