Technovit 3040, a cold setting resin on a methyl methacrylate basis, supplied in the form of powder and liquid is used for taking cast impression of the grooves. The Technovit mix flows in to the finest crevices, reproduces sharp impressions after curing which is dimensionally stable, gives microscopic details. The remote cast impression taking device carries the Technovit mix to the required place where it is poured after pressing a nylon cup around the desired area to prevent leakage on the sides. Curing begins when the powder is mixed with the liquid. The mould which is retained within the sealing cup is taken out of its place by giving a jerk, gives the details of the grooves at 6 O'clock position.
The objective of the test is to produce a replica of the grooves cut and maintain a record of the geometric profile and finish of the grooves. The design features of the device, the practical difficulties encountered while doing the test remotely and the technique adopted to overcome these are briefed in the paper.
