Neutron radiography (NR) is an advanced technique for non- destructive material testing. A considerable development of NR techniques and an increasing use has been attained in the last 15 years [1]. Contribution of European radiographers to the progress of NR has been outstanding since the first NR image detected in 1944 by German experts, and this activity keeps up with international trends. Neutron radiography laboratories exist in several European countries (i. e. France, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Slovenia) at various types of research reactors, at the new spallation neutron source in Switzerland, while increasing role of transportable neutron sources like superconductor cyclotron in Great Britain or the DIANA in France, developed in the frame of a common European project (EURECA) may be observed. A considerable development occurred besides the conventional direct and indirect vacuum film techniques in the application of low-light-level CCD cameras used for real-time and in-situ dynamic NR inspection. Area of applications is wide range, including routine test measurements in quality control, like nuclear fuel rods, pyrotechnic devices to be used in the Ariane launchers, turbine blades, corrosion of aircrafts. A growing importance of NR application can be observed in the field of materials science and R & D contributing in development of industrial products. As an example, efforts with environmental friend materials, like Hydro-Fluoro-Carbon cooling agents in refrigerators and air-conditioners should be emphasized. As a new trend in Hungary, efforts are in progress in combine dynamic neutron radiography examinations with other conventional NDT methods, as vibration diagnostics and acoustic emission in quality control of industrial applications. European Neutron Radiography Working Group (ENRWG) was established in 1993 with the aim to exchange information, to perform joint projects and to promote the use of NR in the industry. However, ENRWG is open to experts of non-European countries as well. REFERENCE
