The use of water-bath systems requires that the operator be aware of conditions that can lead to corrosion of the parts being inspected and of the inspection equipment. Manufacturers of MPI materials should offer operating guidelines for the use of their products and operators need to follow these guidelines.

The mechanisms of corrosion and conditions that contribute to corrosion are addressed in this paper. The importance of proper chemical balance including monitoring and controlling the pH range of the bath are also discussed.
