The technique of separating images between natural ones and artificial ones using fractal dimension has a possibility for this purpose. If a crack is formed, for example, on the wall of a building, a crack could be detected as an image with non- integer fractal dimension within the image of artifacts, that is with integer fractal dimension. Thus, we do not need any prior knowledge where a crack will be formed. What we need is just to count the fractal dimension as accurately as possible and discriminate the curves that has non-integer fractal dimensions.
The preliminary experiments show very good results and it is indeed verified that this approach seems to be very promising, although we need to improve the fractal dimension counting method more. It is also discussed that the technique may be IC chipped, with some description of the conceptual design for that.
