This paper briefly reviews basic principals of impact echo test, a nondestructive test method based on the use of transient stress wave propagation through concrete. The paper also reviews published literature on the impact echo to discuss different parameters involved in the evaluation of the test results. The paper concludes with some case histories where impact echo test was successfully used to evaluate different conditions such as voids in cast-in-place reinforced concrete and shotcrete walls, and bond between old and new concrete overlays.
