The Chemical Conservation and Research Laboratories of the Government Museum, Madras at present concentrates on non-destructive testing of antiquities in all types of work. Non-destructive techniques such as specific gravity measurements, micro analysis by weisz Ring-oven technique, in-situ metallography, ESCA, SEM, XRF etc., analyses are also carried out on both bronze icons and coins. At present a research project entitled Finger-printing of South Indian Panchaloha Idols' is under progress in collaboration with the kalpakkam Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research under the auspices of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
