As an alternative to the experimental methods of the properties identification an indirect approach was proposed based on the inverse problem concept together with optimization techniques and the adequate mathematical model corresponding to direct problems of heat transport. A suitable parallel computing software package was developed for solving transient, three-dimensional, anisotropic, quasi-linear, inverse and direct problems.
The approach was applied to identify thermal conductivity simultaneously in the three principal anatomic directions of scots pine wood. The property was determined for a wide range of temperatures. The mathematical model of direct and inverse problems was validated. The obtained results let to improve accuracy of predictions.
