ABSTRACT
Determination of the presence, size and location of root decay in tree is an important step Of tree evaluation Stress wave velocity, perpendicular to grain is sensitive to decay, The reference velocity is the stress wave velocity in intact tree, The presence of decay in the line between the starter and receiver transducer results drop in stress wave velocity comparing to the reference velocity, BY multiple stress wave velocity measurement in a plane perpendicular to grain, 2D imaging of decay is possible, The reference velocity depends on anatomical direction, so two or more reference velocity determination is necessary.
