Search Tips
* Note:
The original CD-ROM provided a Java based search program, however, if used on the Internet it is a rather slow search technique. For that reason we applied on the Internet the faster NDT.net search.
The search tool provides an easy full-text search or descriptor search.
Full-Text Search:
- Match
- And - All of the words in the search field matched
in the retrieved documents. Example: ultrasonic weld
Or - Any of the words in the search field matched
in the retrieved documents. Example: ultrasonic ultrasound
Boolean - Explicit Boolean search using AND/OR/NOT and parentheses
to define the query. Examples of correct expressions are: "ultrasonic AND weld,"
"ultrasonic NOT weld," "ultrasonic OR (weld NOT pipe)." Note that the
operator NOT has the meaning as "without."
- Format
- Long - Displays the titles, relevant excerpt text, date
of last modification and size of the matching pages.
Short - Displays just the page titles.
-
- Miscellaneous
- Endings and Synonyms - The search engine is configured
to search also for words with the same root as your query term(s) but with
different common endings (such as singular and plural forms, -ed, -er, -ing,
-ly), as well as synonyms, but all of these alternative matches are of lower
priority than an exact match.
Stars and/or Percentages - Stars and/or percentages next to a search result indicate relative relevance of the match.
Descriptor Search:
- Select a descripter of the provided multiple select field.
- Click the Find button.
- Click a matched entry to display the target page in a new browser window.
- For search of papers of author names follow the link "Autor".
(Please excuse typographical errors of author names)
- Go back to the main search page by clicking on "Main Search".
We hope that our edited descriptors have recognized not only the state of the art in NDT but also the various common standards of NDT terms.
