Foreword

The International Symposium on Non-Destructive Testing in Civil Engineering NDT-CE 2003 is the sixth event in a series that was started in 1985 and continued on in 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997 and 2000. The symposium will convene experts from all over the world and present the latest state-of-the-art of NDT-CE and provide a forum for international exchange of knowledge and experience.

The primary aim of this meeting is to document new developments for testing of materials, building components, buildings and structures and to intensify international cooperation in this important and growing field of building research. It is directed to all institutions and experts engaged in non-destructive evaluation in research, administration and industry.

The four day symposium will provide opportunity for discussion of technological trends, testing equipment and applications. It will also provide the latest information on research policies in different countries and help establish joint research projects.

Contributions to this symposium should focus on testing methods used in construction and for the condition assessment of buildings and other structures.

Within this scope, the symposium will deal with both the development of new NDT-CE methods and practical experience or applications in general. The objects of investigations should be building components, buildings, structures and in-situ, non-destructive or quasi non-destructive material analysis and evaluation.

Special attention will be given to preventive inspection systems, which help to identify damage or structural failures under the categories of public safety and economic aspects of construction.
