Sequence

1. The excitation from the flaw detector starts the sequence.
2. Progressively smaller delays for the outer elements of the transmit aperture mean that these fire marginally earlier, so producing a focused transmit beam.
3. The receive beamformer has a narrow aperture immediately after transmission but then expands with time to include progressively more elements.
4. The delays in each receive channel alter with time after transmission so that the receive focus tracks the position of the pulse.
