Tube & Wire'96 Dusseldorf Report

by Rolf Diederichs

I visited this show in Dusseldorf [ Fair Home Page] and interviewed some of the exhibitors at their booths. This article summarizes those interviews. After the Dusseldorf show, I flew to Birmingham for the MTQ (Testing for Quality) '96 exhibition, obviously more closely related to NDT. Here is the MTQ'96 Report.
The Tube & Wire Figures for April 15-19 The following companies made presentations on Ultrasonic Testing for steel tubes: At the Wire'96 show, the companies specializing in ultrasonic thickness measurement were Laser Mike* and Zumbach.
Laser diameter gauges were very prominent at the show. This technique for inline diameter control is rapidly increasing in popularity, and we saw Laser Mike* at the crowded booth of Beta Instruments (specialists in UT and laser techniques).

There was also a good crowd at the Schwer + Kopka GmbH (FAX +49 2103 31371) booth, where they presented their acoustic emission method, often applied for a wide range of inline testing.

The table of contents below outlines some of the information I found useful. Please note information provided by exhibitors implies no endorsement from us.

At the Tube&Wire press office, we selected these two articles as good sources of tube industry background information.
  • Technical developments in the production and processing of tubes
  • From needle pipes to pipelines. Tubes and pipes in technical and everyday use.

*I made an effort not to leave anybody out, but I probably did miss some service companies. If so, I apologize and will be glad to supply the information on demand
