Nondestructive Evaluation of Ceramics Ceramic Transactions, Volume 89

Christopher Schilling, J. N. Gray, R. Gerhardt, and T. Watkins, editors,
Responding to increased economic pressure for higher quality products, ceramic and glass manufacturers are recently demanding more rigorous methods of defect detection and manufacturing process control. At the same time, significant advances have recently been made in the development of nondestructive testing equipment (NDE), advances that entail better spatial resolution and compositional detection, quicker response times, lower capital and operating costs and the ability to perform in-situ tests in severe environments. Presented here is a collection of papers, from industrial leaders and scientific researchers, on the capabilities, needs, and opportunities of using nondestructive evaluation during high-volume ceramic production, as a tool for manufacturing-process development, and in the research laboratory to help understand basic aspects of defect evolution during shape-forming and subsequent processing.
