The A-PCNDT Conference is the largest NDT conference in the Asian and Pacific region, bringing together delegates from the Pacific rim, Asian, and Oceania Countries. In the year 2001 Australia celebrates one hundred years since Federation. The conference will be a part of the celebrations. CONFERENCE VENUE The venue for the Conference is Australia’s most modern, and the southern hemisphere’s largest, convention facility, the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Centre boasts the latest in audiovisual technology. It is conveniently located on the South Bank of the Brisbane River within easy reach of Brisbane’s Domestic and International Airports. It is within walking distance of the Central Business District, Conrad Treasury Casino, the Queens Street Mall, with its range of international restaurants and shops, the Queensland Performing Arts Complex and the South Bank Parkland. ACCOMMODATION Brisbane boasts an excellent range of international standard hotels and motels within walking distance of the Conference Centre. Special rates have already been negotiated with many hotels. DELEGATE COMPOSITION Delegates to A-PCNDT Conferences come from countries throughout the world, and from all branches of the manufacturing, mining, aerospace, power, and petrochemical industries as well as from the Military, Research Establishments and Universities. It is anticipated that more than 300 delegates will participate. CONFERENCE THEME The theme of the Conference is ‘TECHNOLOGY 2001 AND BEYOND’ setting the scene for the new millennium. During the 20th Century we have seen both the science and application of NDT blossom from original thought to high technological achievement. The conference will reflect on these achievements and, through research and application, project the course into the 21st Century. TECHNICAL PROGRAMME AND EXHIBITION A full programme of technical papers and poster displays on subjects such as, but not restricted to: - Equipment design developments. - Inspection and testing. - Codes and Standards. - Training, Education, Qualification and Certification. - Developments in non-destructive testing applications. - International and Regional Co-operation Programmes will afford an opportunity for the dissemination of information and the exchange of ideas on theoretical and practical advances in the science of non-destructive testing, as we enter the twenty first century. The Conference will be complimented by an exhibition of the latest instruments, systems and NDT products. The exhibition will be an integral part of the Social and Technical programmes. BRISBANE IN SEPTEMBER Sub-tropical Brisbane, lying on the banks of the Brisbane River just 14 kilometres inland off the Pacific coast, is the Capital City of the State of Queensland with a population of 1,150,000 (1998). Brisbane was named after the Governor of New South Wales, Sir Thomas Brisbane, when the city was established in 1825. The weather in September is mostly dry and mild with daytime temperatures in the mid twenty’s Celsius. The evenings are cool and pleasant. Visitors to Brisbane will find a warm and friendly city with many and varied attractions, which include the Gondwana Rainforest Sanctuary housing 100 species of wildlife in tropical vegetation and Southbank Parkland with parks, gardens, waterways and walkways. A popular spot is the palm fringed sandy swimming beach. PRE AND POST CONFERENCE TOURS Brisbane is ideally situated as a stepping stone to the rest of Australia. Just one hour drive on a multi-lane highway to the North lies the sandy beaches of the Sunshine Coast and to the South the Playground of Australia - The Gold Coast. Australia’s domestic airlines with their fleet of modern aircraft can have you in Cairns, Alice Springs or Melbourne in around two hours, Darwin, Hobart or Adelaide in three, or Perth in around four hours.
