![]() ASNT Fall Conference in Pittsburgh Oct '97 By Rolf Diederichs NDTnet |
You may see some of these exhibitors on the NDTnet exhibition too.
About 90 companies presented their products at the Exhibition. We
presented our
NDTnet Internet Site and we
were able to find great interest for our Website as well as for the new
NDTnet'97 CD-ROM. Thanks to IRT for geting space and equipment for
our presentation at its booth.

| American Welding Society AWS showed its new Welding Journal's Special Report: Nondestructive Examination. The AWS Website was demonstrated, with its newly revised AWS On-Line Catalog - open for business via the AWS Website 24 hours a day. You can now scan the entire inventory of valuable AWS publications and purchase any of them, with a click of your mouse. Hyperlinks take you to an actual invoice where your entire purchase is calculated for you. Shipping costs, membership and quantity discounts are automatically totaled in response to your personal selections. When ordering, don't hesitate using your credit card, because the AWS server is now secure. Questions: Call AWS at 800-443-Weld, ext. 414 or Email robinson@amweld.org. | Krautkramer
Krautkramer demonstrated NDT solutions to customer applications in four areas: PC based flaw detectors with the USPC 2100 instrument for in-line flaw detection and thickness measurement and the new portable USLT 2000; advanced probe designs including ultrasonic longwear composite probes, arrays with electronics, and Dialog probes for automatic instrument set-up; Krautkramer's Ultraview suite of NDT software; and area scanning systems including AndScan, ISONIC weld inspection, and new Ultramap. Krautkramer's line of portable ultrasonic and eddy current products was on display. See more information at: Krautkramer Homepage, Krautkramer on NDTnet, ISonic Showcase on NDTnet. |
| QMI QMI is displaying its air-coupled ultrasonic technique with the SONDO 007 AirScan ( instrumentation and demonstrating c-scans of a honeycomb panel with the new Mini Labscanner. The company is adding the QMI 2020 ultrasonic PC card to its complete line of NDT Services. The QMI 2020 PC card represents a complete ultrasonic instrument for flaw detection and thickness measurements, and is particularly suited for non-multiplexed multichannel configurations (up to 128 channels). It allows pulse repetition rates of up to 20 kHz per channel. QMI emphasizes its commitment to provide the best technological support by announcing a Business Agreement with LASSON TECHNOLOGY, Inc., a start-up company dedicated to the commercialization of laser based ultrasound. Lasson Technology was founded by Dr. Marvin Klein, a laser physicist specialized in photorefractive receivers. See more information at: |QMI Homepage| |QMI on NDTnet| |Paper presented| |
| Cygnus Instruments, Annapolis Maryland Cygnus Instruments manufactures multiple echo, digital, ultrasonic thickness gages. Accurate wall thickness measurements without grinding or removing coatings. The thickness of the coating is excluded from the measurements displayed on the gage. A variety of gages is available including a durable basic model, an intrinsically safe gage and an underwater gage. There are also gages available that are capable of logging thickness measurements and computer software to analyze thickness measurements. Cygnus also distributes the Quanix line of coating thickness gages. These gages are simple to use at very reasonable prices. No shims are necessary to calibrate. There are a variety of gages available from simple FE gages to data logging/built in printer models. Computer software is also available. Cygnus also distributes mechanical pit gages to measure in those hardto-read areas of pitting. These gages are available in inch or metric versions. For more information call toll free 1-888-CYGNUSS. ![]() |36DL Plus Thickness Gage | |EPOCH III Encoded B-Scan | |9100 High Speed Immersion Flaw Detector | | Panametrics The EPOCH IIIB incorporates a host of high performance features. The EPOCH IIIB is the newest addition to the Panametrics family of advanced digital ultrasonic flaw detectors. The unit is designed to provide the inspector with easy to use test and measurement capabilities at a reasonable cost. Its ergonomically designed, direct access keypad has fewer keys for easy, intuitive operation.
Weighing only 1.2 kg (2.6 lb) when using the belt-mount battery packs, the EPOCH IIIB is ideally suited to detect and characterize hidden flaws in hard to reach pipes, tank walls, and other metal or composite structures. Its splash proof housing withstands years of heavy use in adverse working conditions. Despite its compact size, the EPOCH IIIB incorporates a host of high performance features such as an internal data logger, a fast 60 Hz display update rate, and a soundpath calculator for angle beam testing. Some of its standard features include RF waveform display, minimum depth alarm, zoom, and peak memory mode.

| Tektrend International, Inc. This year at our ASNT show booth, we are showcasing not only the latest evolutionary step in our software development- the ARIUS IV ultrasonic inspection software interface- but most important, our new developments in guided wave and EMAT techniques. As a result of our applied research program, we now have guided wave inspection techniques ready for field applications. Using our portable automated scanner, we will demonstrate how guided wave techniques can be used to detect corrosion in aircraft components. As well, our work with EMAT enables us to demonstrate some promising applications. See more information at: Tektrend International on NDTnet. More Pictures: |

ASNT Publication Commitee Meeting. Rolf Diederichs, a member of the
NDT society, attended the Publications activities division. As at the Seattle Fall Conference Rolf Diederichs introduced again the
NDTnet CD-ROM which could be a great resource for ASNT members.
But it seems that even our ad in ASNT's Material Evaluation Journal should not be reach ASNT members.
Unfortunately, the ASNT editor displayed the incorrect text!
But even worse, ASNT don't want to rectify this matter and publish the the correct
ad in the next issue. Is that fair? See also the related discussion in the UTonline Forum: ASNT Policies taken to Extemes |
You may continue your tour to the Conference Abstracts. |
