Abstract : Laser treatment reaches very fast heating and cooling rates for the materials in process. Age hardenable aluminium alloys therefore tend to instability when laser treated. Research hase been done under these conditions and characterisation methods have been developed for laser joints of high reliability and safety parts.
Innovative Aspects : Laser brazing has many advantages in the case of connecting different aluminium alloys for light-weight constructions. Long-term behaviour, age hardening and corrosion can be researched by a new method. Areas of interest are the automotive and electronics industries.
