TESTEX
Contamination is a constant threat in product manufacture and is of particular importance in the food processing industry. The food manufacturing industry has always taken its safety, health and environmental obligations very seriously and preventative maintenance, particularly process plant testing, is a high priority. Food processing companies are now required by law to exercise a duty of care and due diligence by identifying, monitoring and controlling any hazards. But testing hasn't always been without its problems. Dye-testing of plate heat exchangers, for cracks was a major job. It involved complete shut-down of the process line, often for days at a time. Even then the test method wasn't foolproof. Larger cracks often remained undetected as the gasket seals masked the defects. Smaller cracks too could be missed. They are prone to being masked by residues deposited from cooling water, or product, thus protecting any flaws from dye uptake. Added to all this, regulatory authorities were becoming increasingly concerned about the pollution risk posed by dyes to water courses.
The breakthrough came in 1994 when a major dairy company commissioned Michael Bowling (Managing Director & Inventor) to develop a diagnostic tool, now called Electrolytic Differential Analysis (EDA). The concept was to test heat exchangers in-service without the need for pre-dismantling. But only half the problem had been solved. The plates in heat exchangers proved to be defective by EDA still had to be isolated. That still meant dye-testing which in turn necessitated dismantling.
Not to be beaten, Michael developed a method of Detailed Flaw Detection (DFD) which leaves the plate pack in-situ and undisturbed. As well as reducing pasteuriser downtime from days to hours, the system is able to pinpoint the defective plates from outside the pack, without dismantling.
Further techniques to test for cracks and pinholes in process plant and equipment which potentially present a risk in terms of food safety and product integrity, have been developed by the Company under the TESTEX brand-name. Not surprisingly, TESTEX is now well established and is the test program of choice for major food processing and dairy companies throughout the world.
LICENSING
The Company operates a policy of licensing its business to develop an International Network of Operators in the processing industry.
The company allocates exclusive licensed territories to operators, the licensee is responsible for carrying out all services within the defined area. It was decided that licensing an exclusive network would allow the clients to have someone that would be able to service the needs of the client in the locality.
This has many benefits, including:
- Assistance at hand locally
- The ability to handle/sell all the services from one source
- Ongoing liaison between client and licensee for testing, and additional service
- The obligations of Licenser and Licensee are clearly set out in the TESTEX License Agreement which has been signed by both parties and which has been approved by a leading lawyer.
- By this agreement, the licensee is the owner of the business, under license from Testex International Ltd. Accordingly, YOU are doing business with YOUR customers. Especially important in the relationship is universal commitment to high standards. TESTEX has earned a wide reputation for excellent customer service and this must be maintained and further enhanced in everyone's interests; customer, Licensee and Licenser.
