Partners are invited to join the Industrial Advisory Group (IAG) for the CPD4D programme - part of the DTI's Composites Performance and Design Programme 1997-2000.

Composite materials offer enormous potential for industrial applications, but their use has been impeded by the lack of practical, reliable procedures for their non-destructive evaluation. In recent years great strides have been made in developing use of NDE techniques.

CPD4D addresses the needs of industry for standardised NDE techniques for composites, and to accelerate the beneficial exploitation of composite technology through improved NDE practice at manufacture and in-service.

The project will develop procedures and draft two NDE standards suitable for submission to bodies such as ISO, supported by experimental trials and industrial case studies.

It has already received £200K of funding from the DTI and has the commitment and direct financial support of companies in the chemical, process and oil and gas industries.

Now further participation is invited from industrial partners in the relevant sectors, including chemical, process, oil and gas, aerospace, defence, automotive, marine, construction and recreational equipment. Benefits include networking, early access to procedures, a handbook on NDE technology, use of performance-based economic assessment methods (IVM), the chance to influence the programme's direction, and the opportunity to participate in a C300K research programme.
