The Edge of Light enhanced optical technique is a ground-breaking approach to NDI. Its uniqueness lies in its ability to convert surface slope changes into light intensity variation in an image.

Studies have been carried out that confirm outstanding results. Where certain probabilities of detection (POD) were formerly determined using conventional NDI (such as liquid penetrant, magnetic particle techniques and optical microscopy), the Edge of Light scanner performed significantly better. Given that the Edge of Light is user-friendly and its images so easy to interpret, it shows tremendous potential for applications in aging aircraft NDI and manufacturing, as well as in forensic studies – indeed, anywhere that a clearer view of surface topography is needed.
