DEFECTOSCOPY 2000, an International Exhibition on Non-Destructive Testing Devices and Equipment, held 13-16 June in St. Petersburg became a remarkable event in the world of NDT in Russia. This very representative show took place on 700 square metres of the historical building of Mikhailovsky Manege. 44 companies from Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Moldova, Russia, United Kingdom, USA with the leading positions in manufacturing NDT equipment, displayed their products to show the latest achievements, offer new solutions in ultrasonic, radiographic, acoustic emission, optical, thermal, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, and electromagnetic testing. Around 6,000 specialists from all the main industries: aerospace, aircraft, automobile, power generation, mechanical and energetic engineering, metallurgy, oil and gasshipbuilding, and also in construction and transport visited the exhibition. 750 representatives from the biggest enterprises of Belorussia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia and the Ukraine became official visitors and received a free informative set with an exhibition catalogue and one of the latest issues of NDT World Review. Seminars 'NDT Technologies and Means within the World Railways', 'Ultrasonic Testing in XXI: from Defectoscopy to Defectometry', 'Radiography and Digital Vision: Present and Future', and competitions for practical specialists at the stands of Belfi, Nordinkraft and Rich. Seifert were held during the show. Winners received diplomas and memorable presents. DEFECTOSCOPY 2000 was organized by the Restec Exhibition Company and NDT World Review with the sponsorship by AGFA-Gevaert NV and the official support of the Ministry of Railways of Russia and OAO 'Gazprom'. The St. Petersburg State University of Railways made a big contribution to the arrangement of two seminars and competitions. Along with DEFECTOSCOPY, the 5th International Congress and Exhibition 'HI-TECH: High Technologies. Innovations. Investments' and the 2nd METALLURGY Exhibition took place in the frame of the High Technologies Week in St. Petersburg. In the opinion of participants and visitors, DEFECTOSCOPY 2000 was rarely productive and efficient.
