World Commercial and Dual-Use Military Infrared Imaging Markets Expected to Reach $790 Million in 2000
Fairfield, CT -- World infrared imaging markets for commercial and dual-use military systems reached a volume of $660 million in 1999 and are expected to reach $790 million this year. These markets are poised for a new spurt of growth - according to a new in-depth report on the industry by Maxtech International.
Although systems used strictly for Nondestructive Testing (NDT) of materials are a small percentage of the total market, the broader Predictive Maintenance, Process Control, R&D and NDT markets together amount to nearly a third of the total.
The development of uncooled focal plane arrays (FPAs) and cameras is driving most of the growth. The technology was first developed in the U.S. but has also stimulated extensive research in Europe, Japan and a number of other parts of the world. As a result, uncooled FPA technology is about to go global.
A number of applications are driving these developments, including Fire Fighting and Automotive Night Vision systems. The success of the Night Vision system in the year 2000 Cadillac DeVille has resulted in a tremendous "market pull" which is inspiring the development of numerous night vision systems for car manufacturers. At the same time, commercial applications of uncooled technology in Predictive Maintenance, Quality and Process Control, R&D, Nondestructive Testing, Law Enforcement, Surveillance and other applications are also expanding.
Meanwhile, cooled infrared technology is also developing rapidly, with new high performance cooled FPAs and systems.
Dual-Use systems - commercial systems that are easily adapted to military use - are increasingly being used by defense ministries around the world because of affordability.
At the same time, spot Infrared Thermometry sensors (pyrometers) are now available in a wide range of price/performance combinations and have penetrated a broad range of production applications and some suppliers are beginning to expand into imaging radiometers.
Maxtech's report, titled The World Market for Commercial & Dual-Use Military Infrared Imaging and Infrared Thermometry Equipment, is a 340 page analysis of both thermal imaging and spot infrared thermometry markets.
The report forecasts market sizes through 2005 separately for Infrared Imaging and Thermometry. Forecasts are also provided separately for cooled and uncooled infrared imaging equipment in the following application areas: Predictive Maintenance, Process Control, Research & Development, Nondestructive Testing, Night Vision, Law Enforcement, Driver's Vision Enhancers (Dual-Use Military, Commercial and Consumer), Aircraft Enhanced Vision Systems (EVS), Fire Fighting, Search & Rescue, Surveillance/Security, Dual-Use Airborne, Dual-Use Weapon Sights and Dual-Use Other.
All Forecasts are given separately for North America and the Rest of the World and the overall market is segmented by geography into the following regions: North America, Europe, Pacific Rim, Asia, Latin America, Africa and Middle East.
Market shares of leading supplier companies are provided and Company Profiles for leading companies worldwide are detailed. Market shares are given separately for international suppliers of Commercial & Dual-Use, Commercial Only, and also for Fire Fighting.
