For the production of injection nozzles for passenger
cars, very high quality requirements of the used bar
material are mandatory. Therefore, an internal
standard has been established by a well known
supplier for the automotive industry, which has to be
fulfilled by each manufacturer of bars. In this
standard, ultrasonic testing for smallest flaws is
defined. Therefore, testing systems for this material
are acceptance-tested by the supplier of inspection
nozzles. In September, the first two systems of the
type "HRP.S" - a high-speed bar testing system with
stationary probes
and non-rotating
bar - has been
intensively tested
and successfully
accepted. Further
installations of
automatic systems
of this type and for
the same testing
task will be carried
out in the near
future. With these
systems, another
important step for
the widespread use
of bar testing with
stationary probes
has been done.The HRP.S is a high-speed testing system with stationary probes and non-rotating bars. The bars are linearly transported through the immersion test chamber. A balanced number of angle and vertical probes guarantees a uniform and complete coverage of the cross section. A very high testing speed (feed-through speed), which may reach 2 m/s under optimum conditions, can be obtained. The probes are mounted on cassettes which can be quickly changed in order to inspect bars from diameters between 10 mm and 90 mm. Furthermore, a slightly modified version, of this high-speed testing system can also be used for tube inspection.
