According to the latest analysis, the U.S. Market for Nondestructive Testing Equipment reached $510 million in 2001 and is estimated to grow to $632 million by 2006, at a compound annual growth rate of more than 4%.
However, not all equipment sectors are expected to grow equally. The highest growth rates are expected in electronic-based NDT equipment, such as ultrasonic testing, eddy current testing and filmless radiography. Other methods, such as magnetic particle testing, liquid particle testing and film radiography are not growing as fast due to environmental issues and the competition from alternative methods. [Note: the market for infrared thermography used in NDT is not included and will be reported separately].
Growth projections are also expected to vary greatly by industry. However, in general, NDT equipment supplied for manufacturing process control applications is increasing more rapidly than for traditional flaw detection.
Additional details of the survey are covered in a new, expanded edition of Maxtech International's Series on Nondestructive Testing Markets, which also includes segmentation of the market by Equipment-Type and End-User Industry; Supplier Market Shares; Company Profiles; Competitive Strategies; Technology Trends; Pricing Trends and New Market Opportunities.
