Chromasonics - The application of chromatic processing techniques to acoustic signatures
Record Control Number : 28794 Quality Validation Date : 2002-12-13 Update Date : 2002-12-30 Abstract : A UK SME in the instrumentation sector has developed a new technology for the analysis of acoustic signatures that has analytical properties that have many advantages over currently available tools, such as Fourier analysis. Chromasonics can be used to extract predictive data from large amounts of data and detect parameters that are difficult or even impossible using other technologies. The developer is interested in joint venture partnerships via licensing and technical co-operation. The SME has developed chromatic techniques to analyse acoustic signatures. The technology has applications in any area where two or more surfaces combine or interact to produce a signature. Currently identified areas are automotive, rail and rolling stock, various types of industrial plant and processes, structures, medical and biomedical. Feasibility has been proved in the analysis of road/tyre interface for Heavy Goods Vehicle tyres; the method was able to predict failure of the tyre 30 minutes prior to the actual failure event. This unique monitoring tool has been so developed that the computer processing power is kept to a minimum; therefore, special computers are not required for analysis processing. Main Advantages: There are no comparable technologies in many areas and Chromasonics can outperform other technologies in comparable areas, without the need for high-powered or expensive process and computing equipment. Innovative Aspects : Applies established chromatic processing techniques in a unique way to audio and ultrasonic signatures to carry out real-time analysis and monitoring of parameters that are difficult or impossible using other techniques.
