Dear Fellow Photoacoustic / Photothermal Scientist:
I am writing to you on behalf of the Directors of the IPPA, a non-profit association incorporated in North America in February 2001. Two prizes are awarded biennially by the IPPA. The IPPA Prize is aimed at recognizing and honoring scientists or engineers who have made significant contributions to the field of Photoacoustic and Photothermal Science and Technology. Prizes are awarded for single outstanding contributions or sustained contributions made over a number of years. Special efforts will be made to recognize the work of young researchers defined as those who have not reached the age of forty years. The Prize is given irrespective of the country, race, or sex of the candidate.
The IPPA solicits international nomination of candidates for the Prize. The Nominator's package should consist of the following: (a) Biographical information, a list of publications, patents or other published work of the nominee; and (b) a description of the significance and impact of the contributions of the nominee. Optional Letters of Reference from recognized professionals and scientists outside the Nominee's organization may be sent as well. Self-nomination is permissible. A large number of Letters of Reference does not improve a nominee's chances for being selected. The submission deadline for nominations for the 2004 IPPA Prizes is July 30, 2003 to be received by Professor Josef Pelzl, Institut fuer Experimentalphysik III, Festkoerperspektroskopie, Ruhr-Universitaet, D-44780 Bochum, GERMANY. Tel: (49) 234-32-26051 (23601 Secr.); Fax: (49) 234-32-14336 (or 14172); email: pelzl@ep3.ruhr-uni-bochum.de.
The 2004 prizes will be awarded during the 2004 ICPPP meeting in Rio de Janeiro. An IPPA Prize consists of a Certificate signed by the IPPA President and the Prize Committee Chair, with proper citation of the Prize-winner's contributions, together with U. S. $1,000.00 (which may be shared in the event of a shared Prize).
You are also kindly encouraged to send a donation to the IPPA, which will be used entirely for the sole purpose of defraying the costs of the financial awards that accompany the awarding of each Prize, as well as for the minimal costs associated with the IPPA operation. Donations as low as $20 can be made in the form of checks or international money orders, preferably in Canadian or US $ funds (all other convertible currencies are also welcome), made out to the International Photoacoustic and Photothermal Association and should be sent to: Royal Bank Financial Group, Kingston and McGowan Branch No. 06022, 3090 Kingston Road, Scarborough, Ontario M1M 1P1, Canada; Account No. 1001072. Residents of the United States and others who wish to obtain US tax credit receipts, should send their donations to Gerry Diebold. Further information on the activities of the IPPA is available on our website.
With best personal regards
Andreas Mandelis
