Welcome Message from the President of WCNDT
On behalf of the Conference Organizing Committee for the 16 th World Conference on Nondestructive Testing, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to participate in what will be a memorable conference. The 16 th WCNDT will provide an excellent opportunity to meet with representatives from around the world who play a key role in the development and advancement of NDT. With the new global economy, it is important that we work closely together to remain in the forefront of NDT technology and accomplish our goal of providing a truly international event for the NDT community.

As your hosts for the 16 th WCNDT, the Canadian Institute for NDT along with the Conference Organizing Committee are committed to creating a very informative and attractive scientific programme, while building on our previous successes to make the 16 th WCNDT Conference even better. With this in mind, we urge you to attend this conference and to share with us your knowledge, aspirations and circumstances surrounding the continued advancements within our chosen profession.

Welcome Message from the WCNDT Chair
It was 1996 when Canada was awarded the honour of hosting the 16 th World Conference on Nondestructive Testing (WCNDT) and excitement is escalating as August 2004 fast approaches.

Traditionally the WCNDT has represented the largest gathering of non-destructive testing personnel from around the globe, providing an excellent forum for researchers and practitioners to remain updated on new directions and issues related to our profession.

We are confident that the venue, Montreal, Canada, has all the essential ingredients for a highly successful conference both scientifically and socially. Our members and colleagues from all continents will come to present their latest scientific results, attend and participate in first rate sessions, and meet with our industrial partners who welcome the opportunity to show and discuss their latest products. With a combination world-class convention facility, a friendly atmosphere and a full social programme all attendees are sure to feel welcome.

As Chair of the Conference Organizing Committee for the 16 th WCNDT, I strongly encourage you to be part of this major event in the field of nondestructive testing and I look forward to seeing you in Montreal, Canada in August 2004.

Welcome Message from the WCNDT Programme Chair
On behalf of the Technical Programme Committee, I would like to invite you to join us in Montreal, Canada for the 16 th WCNDT. The Technical Programme Committee is working diligently on the development of an outstanding technical programme which will comprise over 700 oral and poster presentations covering all aspects of NDT/NDE including the latest developments of techniques based on ultrasonics, eddy currents, optics, radiography, microwaves, thermal and infrared, their improvements through signal processing and their application to different industrial sectors such as aerospace, automotive, petrochemical, civil structures, micro-systems, materials processing, etc.

The conference will also cover subjects such as certification, standards and training of NDT personnel. International panel discussions and focused presentations will cover the state of the art in non-contact ultrasonics and integration of NDE technologies in upgrade programs for reinforced concrete bridges. More than 20 invited papers will cover a broad range of applications and novel technologies. The proceedings of the conference will be provided to participants in the form of a CD.
