Ultrasonic Testing - Where are the cracks in a Pipeline?
Pipelines are worldwide risk for our inviroment, because they can break and produce a leakage.
Ultrasonic Testing equipment, that will find very small cracks, is in development at the Saarbrücker Fraunhofer-Institut for NDT, as consultation for the Pipetronix GmbH Karlsruhe.
The test-pig should be ready in spring 1996, to carry out the inspection also on some russian pipelines.
The intelligent sensoric consist of 898 Ultrasonic Transducers, they check from inside the pipe. The longitudional echos are recorded and further evaluated.
