I am interested in finding any articles or reports on the ultrasonic testing of butt fused welds in polyethylene pipe.
I have seen some relevant information at http://www.ndt.net, however I was wondering if there are any other articles available.
Thank you
Jeff

When we prepared the NDTnet issue we asked Jeff Phillips if he could gain any information by his post
Jeff Phillips answered:
Did not get a lot of interest however the following may be of interest.
- METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TESTING WELDS IN PLASTIC PIPE - US PATENT
4,610,166
- A search of the GRI database at http://www.gri.org using butt fusion gives
several references.
- The bible of ultrasonics, Krautkramers "Ultrasonic Testing of Materials"
4th edition, page 557 gives reference to IIW-V-627-78 although I do not
know the current status of this document.
(Does the German 5th Edition, give anymore?)
- The most recent reference I have come across is from GRI "Proceedings -
1997 International Symposium - Plastic Piping Systems for Gas Distribution
- Session 6 - Ultrasonic Evaluation of Butt Fusion Welded Polyethylene
Pipes" October 20 -23, 1997
