	Determination of fibre orientation in composites with the ultrasonic backscattering method. This article describes the results of a study of the ultrasonic backscattering method to determine the orientation of fibre composite. New models of the backscattering effect on fibre composite materials were developed and compared with the measured results. The results showed that it is possible to detect the fibre orientation with better reliability. It was thus possible to use this method for an advanced defect analysis. By T. Pfeifer, S. Rümenapp, J. 	Testing of fibre reinforced light metals With the use of fibre reinforced materials with their compound structures, and the need for detection of very small defects up to 100µm, NDT faces a great challenge. The detection of various defects requires the use of a combination of different kinds of NDT methods (here UT, ET). The focus of the study is investigation of the probability of inclusion detection. 	Control of Dissimilar Explosion Bonded Cladding by Ultrasonic Testing Inclusions and other inhomogeneities in explosion bonded copper/steel high vacuum components for a synchrotron storage ring are easily detectable by ultrasonic immersion testing. A focused 25 MHz probe recognizes flaws down to the grain noise level of 0.2 mm equivalent reflector size by pulse echo technique. 	Synthesis of ultrasonic transducers directional diagram The method of direction diagram control is present. Magnetic contact fluid is used as the active element for forming the direction diagram. In particular, the described system was intended for automation of the ultrasonic control of axes of carload wheel pairs with a transducer placed on one end. 	NDT in India - Report on the 14th WCNDT in New Delhi The 14th World Conference on Non Destructive Testing, WCNDT, was held in New Delhi, India, December 6-13, 1996. 	Thermal Wave Imaging of Adhesive Bonds and Composites A thermal wave imaging system was used to nondestructively image subsurface defects and internal structure in aircraft. Future work and expected results: A reliable, novel, cost-effective thermal wave imaging technology for the rapid, wide-area detection of disbonding and corrosion on metal aircraft skin structures, and for applications to NDI of subsurface damage in composite aircraft structures.
