![]() This Month's Articles
Energy | Safety Risk
| The main conclusion to be drawn from the examples given in this paper is that assessment of the contribution of NDE to reactor safety requires careful analysis, and is not immediately obvious. Frank Ammirato, EPRI, Charlotte, NC, USA
Quality | Weld
| Each testing of welded joints should start with the selection of a suitable testing method and determination of the extent of testing. The selection of a testing method and determination of the extent of testing are as important as testing itself when the final result is considered. Gabriel Rihar, D.Sc., Institut za varilstvo, Ptujska 19, Ljubljana.
Reliability
|
| The paper exposes an inconsistency in the field of non-destructive examination (NDE) and points out the dangers of the confusion which is created by it. Terry Oldberg, Consultant, Los Altos Hills, California; Ronald Christensen, Entropy Limited, Lincoln, Massachusetts.
Impact-Echo | Radar UT Civil Eng.
| An example is reported of combined application of NDT techniques on an innovative railway system. C. Colla, B. Milman, J. Wöstmann, F. Mielentz, J. Henschen, H. Wiggenhauser, Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM), VII.3, Berlin.
Impact-Echo | Civil Eng.
| The results clearly show the advantages of scanning over point measurements. They unambiguously prove that Impact-Echo can lead to wrong results when point measurements are used for interpretation. C. Colla, G. Schneider, J. Wöstmann, H. Wiggenhauser, Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM), Berlin .
Endoscopic | Shearography Thermography
| Endoscopic shearography allows the inspection of components such as lined fuel tanks which were previously difficult or impossible due to their closed structure. Endoscopic thermography will provide a means of nondestructively confirming endoscopic shearography indications and may have some applications for which endoscopic shearography is unsuitable. S.S. Russell, Marshall Space Flight Center MSFC; Alabama M.D. Lansing, University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama.
IRT |
| The report shows the Laboratory's activities in two fields: infrared vision (especially for NDE) and automated industrial inspection. Xavier Maldague, Annual Reports 1997-1998 of the Computer Vision and Systems Laboratory, Canada | |
