This Month's Introduction
	This Month's Issue features NDE of Wood in conjunction with publications of the 5th World Conference on Timber Engineering, 1998 August 17-20, Montreaux, Switzerland. We have  provided selected articles and WCTE Abstracts dealing with NDT.
Thanks to the upcoming NDTISS '99 Symposium 1999 this month in Brazil we have  two additional papers dealing with wood. In a future NDTnet issue we'll publish more papers from this conference. On a related topic,  two articles deal with a new SAFT method which is very useful for low frequency applications such as wood or concrete. We are pleased to publish another article by Ed Ginzel.   His Report on Pipe Mill Ultrasonics points out the greatest risks for poor or missed inspections, using the standard code procedures. Have a look at the new Forum Member Database; many functions are much better now. We have closed  the TOFD Q&A and selected  the  lucky Winners.
