Angled compression mode is commonly used in ultrasonic applications...a great summary has been provided of the sort of applications it finds at http://www.ndt.net/article/pow1297/schmid/schmid.htm

By mode conversion we understand the change of a compression mode to a transverse mode or visa versa. These events occur as a result of boundary interactions of a wavefront.

An interesting exception to this assumption is the SH shear mode which does not mode convert to L mode!

: Dear all ,
: 1)why cant we use angled longitudinal beam for inspection as it has higehr velocity? can we able to produce angled longitudinal beam?
: 2) in TOFD we use angled Longitudianl beam? so i think we can get angled longitudinal beam.
: 3)mode conversion start in material or wedge?????????
