: Hello,
.
: Some of our customers are asking us to train and certify their
: employees in RT as per SNT TC 1A of ASNT. But the candidates
: are to undertake only RT Film interpretation.
: Can we train them only for film interpretation and certify as
: ASNT Level II in RT ?
: Should we mention in the certificate as " Level II RT
: - Film interpretation " ?
: What is the industry practice ?
: Since many QC engineers evaluate only films and not undertake any Radiography testing themselves , can such qualified persons be permitted to evaluate films as per ASME Sec VIII, / IX or AWS D1.1 ?

G'Day Mr AnanthanI just happened to be glancing through my copy of SNT-TC-1A today and there is a specific sylabii in there for Radiographic Interpretation.
However before cutting and slashing it down to the bones it should be considered that most certification bodies conduct a three part examination consisting of:
1. General - RT level II theory
2. Specific - Film Interpretation theory ie identification of artifacts, sensitivity calculations, causes of defects, welding processes etc
3. Practical - self explanatoryThe candidate must have a good knowledge of the whole process and theory to be able to identify what is going on from the small amount of information presented on the film.
Kindest Regards
