There are certainly opportunities for ALL in both Engineering and NDT. In the past I have advised women friends to consider such careers but the response has been lukewarm at best.
Recently I read that the IT industry has suffered a major desertion by women. Likewise engineering in general and NDT in specific has never been viewed as women-friendly - apart from in times of strife!
I would value well-trained and dedicated female colleagues.

: At the site of my day job two of seven radiographers are women. This is at a manufacturing plant, and over the past 10 years there have been at least three other women who worked as radiographers and one who was an ultrasonic inspector. Those four stayed here until they retired. Two women have worked here in NDT engineering support. I know of three other women in the Kansas City area who are working as magnetic particle and penetrant inspectors in manufacturing plants. I have certainly not seen any evidence of discrimination. There might be difficulties with living conditions in some field and temporary positions.
