PZT, PVDF or Composite?

I've been working on an ultrasound imaging project
demanding high sensitivity on the ultrasound sensor.
I'd welcome any information on the optimal type of
sensor to use. The sensors are non-focused, broadband
with center frequencies at 1MHz to 3MHz, immersion
type (low acoustic impedance). I've had mixed results
with commercial PZT based sensors(with acoustic
matching).Do PVDF or composite sensors provide
better sensitivity? Are they commercially available
or can be custom made?
