Authors

Burkhard Fay was born in Braunschweig, Germany, on December 5, 1937. He received the M.S. degree in physics in 1965 the Ph.D. degree in 1970, both from the Technische Universität Braunschweig. He was with the Institut für Technische Physik of the Technische Universität until 1969. In 1969 he joined the Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt, Braunschweig, where he is now head of the Laboratory "Ultrasonics". His main research interests are ultrasonic backscattering, transducer calibration, and thermal effects in ultrasonic fields.
Gerhard Ludwig was born in Gotha, Germany, on March 9, 1938. He received the Dipl. lng. degree in electrical engineering from the Fachhochschule Braunschweig Wolfenbüttel in 1965. Since 1965 he has been with the PhysikalischTechnische Bundesanstalt, Braunschweig. His main activities are in the field of ultrasonics, especially the field of hydrophone calibration. Hans Peter Reimann was born in Braunschweig, Germany, on November 26, 1951. He received the Dipl. Ing. degree in electrical engineering from the Fachhochschule Braunschweig Wolfenbüttel in 1983. Since 1983 he has been with the Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt, Braunschweig. His main interests are in the field of ultrasonics, especially the calibration of contact transducers.
